National Museum

The National Museum of Cameroon, located in the former presidential palace in Yaoundé, was inaugurated in 1988 by President Paul Biya. Covering 15,000 m², it houses a rich collection that reflects the history and cultural identity of the country’s various ethnic groups.

In 1991, efforts were made to transform the site into a museum, with the help of UNESCO experts. It preserves material culture from Cameroon’s four main cultural areas and offers some thirty exhibition rooms, including traditional masks, musical instruments, national emblems, and exhibits on the country’s political and social history.

The museum is designed as a place of education and national integration, celebrating the richness of Cameroonian heritage and strengthening the sense of belonging to the nation.
